You can extend the 30-day visa exemption once, by 30 days, at an immigration office for THB 1,900 (about USD 57 or GBP 42), and the officer decides. We did not verify the Phuket office's address, hours or booking rules, so check them on the Immigration Bureau's website and with the office. Before you visit, make sure your landlord has filed your TM30. Rules are as of 6 October 2026.

In short

  • Since 15 September 2026 the exemption gives 30 days, and one extension adds 30 days for THB 1,900. The decision is the officer's (Royal Thai Embassy London, 8 September 2026; Siam Legal and Vialto, 2026).
  • For a tourist extension the Immigration Bureau lists form TM.7, a copy of your passport, a 4 x 6 cm photo no older than six months and the THB 1,900 fee, filed in person (Immigration Bureau, checked 8 October 2026).
  • A DTV extends once for 180 days, and retirement and marriage visas extend for a year, each for THB 1,900. A visa on arrival cannot be extended (ThaiLawOnline, 2026; Thaiger, 6 September 2026).
  • Check your TM30 before the visit: your landlord files it within 24 hours of your arrival, and in Bangkok and tourist provinces offices may insist on a fresh notice (ThaiLawOnline, 7 September 2026).
  • Overstay costs THB 500 a day, capped at THB 20,000. Leaving before the extension ends without a re-entry permit cancels it (ThaiLawOnline, 5 October and 28 September 2026).

Which extensions exist, and for how long?

What you can extend depends on how you entered. The exemption extends once for 30 days, a DTV once for 180 days, and retirement and marriage visas for a year, all at THB 1,900. A visa on arrival cannot be extended at all. Terms are as of 6 October 2026 (ThaiLawOnline, 2026; Thaiger, 6 September 2026).

Student extensions follow separate rules: up to 90 days at a time in language schools, no more than a year from entry, and up to a year in universities (ThaiLawOnline, 29 September 2026). If you were admitted on or before 14 September 2026 on the 60-day scheme, you keep the period granted at entry (Vialto; Fragomen, September 2026). Our sources do not describe how an extension counts for you, so ask the office.

A UK, US or Australian passport

You are on the 30-day list, with tourism only and one extension. A couple from Manchester who land on 1 November and extend once pay THB 3,800 in total (about USD 113 or GBP 84, at THB 33.6 per dollar and THB 45 per pound) and can stay for the 30 days plus the 30-day extension. A stay until March needs another status: a DTV if you work remotely for foreign clients, a retirement route from age 50, or another visa.

Where do you apply, and what do you bring?

The Immigration Bureau's homepage offers online appointments for Bangkok (Division 1), Ayutthaya, and the Northeast (Division 4), North (Division 5) and South (Division 6) regions. Phuket lies in the south, but we did not check whether that booking covers it, so confirm the address, hours and booking on the Bureau's website and with the office. The Bureau describes a tourist extension as filed in person, and says nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda get extensions of no more than 7 days (Immigration Bureau, checked 8 October 2026).

  • Form TM.7 for an extension of stay.
  • Your passport and a copy.
  • A 4 x 6 cm photo no older than six months.
  • THB 1,900 for the fee.
  • Proof of your TM30: the office may ask for it.

For the exemption itself the procedure may be clarified, because it rests on the Cabinet decision, not on the text of the notifications, so apply early (VisasNews, September 2026).

The Bureau also promotes an online e-Extension system, the online 90-day report (TM.47) and the TM.30 notice; our sources do not say which extensions can be filed online. It describes extensions on its official page.

TM30, the 90-day report and the re-entry permit

Your landlord, owner or hotel manager files the TM30, not you, within 24 hours of your arrival. The fine is up to THB 2,000 for a landlord and THB 2,000 to 10,000 for a hotel manager. Many offices skip a fresh notice when you return to the same address, but Bangkok and tourist provinces may insist (ThaiLawOnline, 7 September 2026).

Long-stay holders (retirement, marriage, DTV) file an address report every 90 days. The window opens 15 days before the due date, and you file online, in person or by registered mail; the report does not extend your stay. A re-entry permit costs THB 1,000 for a single trip or THB 3,800 for multiple trips, and counters sit at immigration offices and airports, Phuket included (ThaiLawOnline, 28 September 2026; Thaiger, 16 September 2026). More: TM30 and the 90-day report.

What happens if you overstay?

Overstay costs THB 500 a day, capped at THB 20,000, and Section 81 of the Immigration Act carries up to two years and THB 20,000. If you hand yourself in, there is no ban under 90 days and bans of 1 to 10 years after that; arrest brings a ban of 5 or 10 years (ThaiLawOnline, 5 October 2026).

More on entry limits and bans: Visa runs and overstay in Thailand in 2026 and the 30-day exemption from September 2026. A typical visit is described in A 30-day exemption extended in Phuket in one visit.

What we do

We prepare the extension before the visit and go with you to the Phuket immigration office. Our lawyers hold Lawyers Council of Thailand licences and work in English, Russian and Thai. The officer decides and we cannot guarantee the outcome.

  1. We check how you entered, until when, and how many days are left.
  2. We find out whether a TM30 is filed in your name and ask your landlord to file it if not.
  3. We complete form TM.7 and assemble the pack.
  4. We go with you to the office and stay until the stamp.
  5. We plan the next step: a DTV, a retirement route or an exit, plus 90-day reports and the re-entry permit. Other routes: staying longer in Thailand.

What to check yourself

Five items you can close on your own before you call us. If one is open, close it before the visit: the officer judges the pack when you file, and a second trip uses up days of your stay. Start with the TM30 and the re-entry permit, which depend on your landlord and travel plans.

  • The end date of your stay on your entry or extension stamp, and how many days remain.
  • A TM30 filed in your name for your current address.
  • Your passport, a copy, form TM.7, a 4 x 6 cm photo and the fee.
  • For long-stay extensions, a bank letter and a statement for the required period.
  • Your travel plans before the stay ends, and whether you need a re-entry permit.

Describe your situation in the form below: when and how you entered, the date stamped in your passport and where you live. Within 24 hours we tell you which extension fits and prepare a list for your visit.
